TURKEY TROT SAGA
The Turkey Trot story
began in the spring of 1987. In May of that year
we hung a sign on what is now our "Guide Shack"
and proclaimed it "Turkey Trot Acres Hunting
Lodge". An small advertisement in a national
turkey hunting magazine brought us about a dozen
hunters that year. The next spring’s hunting
season we hosted over thirty hunters. By late
1988 it was evident that we might have a future
in the hunting lodge business!
In February of 1989 we went to work in a nearby state forest
and harvested 180 prime red-pine trees. Sherry
and I, with the help of a few friends cut,
sawed, peeled, notched and constructed our 3000
square foot log-cabin hunting lodge. We have
continued to expand our facility every year.
During those early years, few people would have bet on us
making a success of our new business. An often
asked question was, "Whoever heard of a hunting
lodge in New York State?" Well... we proceeded
to show folks! Every spring and fall we continue
to build on a tradition of providing quality
hunting, lodging and dining to our guests who
venture here from all over the country. Through
hard work by our dedicated staff our lodge has
been blessed with a reputation as one of the
finest hunting lodges in the United States.
Each May from 1994 to 2002 we hosted the "Turkey Trot Acres
All-Star Celebrity Hunt" which brought some of
the biggest names in hunting, sporting and
entertainment to Turkey Trot for a three day
turkey hunt. The proceeds from this fund raising
extravaganza, which well over $140,000, have all
been spent on youth projects locally as well as
nationally! Our goals for this event were to
provide a positive hunter image to the public
while benefiting youth locally as well as
nationally. |
